Brown Aveda Institute scholarship contest

The deadline for application Is Friday, April 18 at 5pm.

This year, 4 Full Scholarships will be awarded, 2 Cosmetology and 2 Esthetics at each of our schools.

The Scholarship award includes full tuition, kit fees, enrollment, and application fees.

About the 2025 Scholarship Contest

If selected, you will be invited to participate in the Scholarship Contest/Earth Month Fashion Show on Sunday, April 27, 2025. Contest preparation will begin at Brown Aveda Institute (Mentor) and the scholarship contest will take place at Great Lakes Mall in Mentor.

Of those that compete, winners will be chosen to receive a full Cosmetology or an Esthetics scholarship to each of our Brown Aveda Institutes (Mentor and Strongsville).

Please review all rules and details of the contest below in order to be eligible to compete and accept the scholarship. Deadline for submissions is Friday, April 18, 2025 at 5pm.

Requirements

  • Contestants with any prior training at a Licensed Cosmetology school are not eligible to participate. To enroll in the Institute if chosen, you must have completed high school or have a GED.

Guidelines for Entry 

  • All Models & Contestants must wear black clothing.

  • All models must be 13 years or older. No Male or Child Models.

  • Contestants work alone on their model. You must bring all your own supplies, tools, product, & clothing needed to prepare your model.

  • Cosmetology Contestants: No cutting or chemical services will be performed on the models anytime in the competition. You are responsible for the overall style of the model (hair, makeup, and clothing), and you will not be judged on the haircut or color of the models’ hair. Please do not dress your model in casual clothing.

  • Esthetics Contestants: You are required to pull the models hair away from the face so the judges can see the makeup application, along with an ALL black semi formal clothing. Please do not dress your model in casual clothing.

The annual scholarship contest will take place at Great Lakes Mall

  • When the contestants arrive on the day of the contest there will be a before picture taken that will be given to the judges that day so they can judge the best before and after model.

  • It is not a requirement to enroll prior to the competition. If chosen as a winner, you may register after the contest.

  • The day of the competition you will be given approximately 3 hours to complete your model’s look.

  • Please review these criteria when choosing your model and her overall look:

    • Cosmetology Contestants: hair style, makeup application, Clothing

      • Hair - How well the contestant chose the style for the model, & how well it is finished.

      • Makeup – How well the makeup application is done, & how it complements the model.

      • Fashion - How appropriate the clothing is for the model and the trend that is executed.

      • Concept - What is the impression of the entire look of the model?

    • Esthetic Contestants: makeup application that goes along with the style chosen for the model and the clothing.

      • Hair – Pull the hair back or up so that it does not interfere with the contestants look.

      • Makeup – How well the makeup application is done, & how it complements the model.

      • Fashion - How appropriate the clothing is for the model and the trend that is executed.

      • Concept - What is the impression of the entire look of the model?

Winner Selection

  • The judging panel will be comprised of stylists, salon owners, or alumni industry professionals, or past winners of the contest.

  • Finalists will be scored based on the following criteria:

    • Online submission

    • Before and After: Model Transformation

    • Model’s On Stage Presence

  • All winners will be selected on merit. Brown Aveda Institute will not discriminate on the basis of age, color, sex, creed, or any other characteristics protected by law.

Details 

  • There will be one cosmetology and one esthetic full scholarship awarded for each campus. (Includes all tuition, kit fees, enrollment, and application fees)

  • All winners must complete admission requirements to accept scholarship, and if program is not completed the scholarship is null and void.
