Monica Clark - 2017 Brown Aveda Graduate and Stylist

A month after graduating from Brown Aveda Institute, Monica Clark launched her new career as a stylist with Ladies and Gentlemen Salon and Spa

Winner of the 2017 PBA Beacon competition, the 2016 OAB Student Bridal competition, and hairstylist for the Annual Earth Month Calendar in 2017, Monica encourages students to, “Reach for that exposure in school and start building a reputation before you even hit the industry.”

Jumping at the opportunity for bold creativity, Monica also recently collaborated with fellow Aveda grads Bayley Brown and Emily Eneix to unleash her passion at RAW Cleveland presents Connect, which featured over fifty upcoming talents' powerful photography, fashion, and other innovative art.

We caught up with Monica to ask her more about her career:

Why do you love what you do?

I love being creative and expressive, and I love letting people find where their happy place is and be happy with themselves. I'm very big into the natural side of things, because everyone has beauty and I like bringing that out.

How did your Aveda experience impact where you are now?

I started at Brown on my own research. Learning their mission and what they stood for stuck with me, so I wanted to go with Aveda as well as Brown. Their company, their mission, and their progress went hand in hand, and I wanted to stay on the path they were on.

Do you have any advice for aspiring artists?

Definitely staying true to yourself and finding your place in the industry- where you thrive, where your passion lies, find that focus and that's how you'll succeed. If you have that passion and find that area that brings that on, whether its multiple areas or just one, focus on it.

Catch Monica at Ladies and Gentlemen Salon and Spa in Mentor, and be sure to check out her braiding and style expertise on Instagram!
